Prayer for a Broken Marriage

Here is a prayer I should have been praying the first fifteen years of our marriage instead of trying desperately to control my husband and our circumstances.  I learned that even if your circumstances don’t change right away, your heart and mind can.  Begin by allowing God to change you, and other things will begin to change as well.  A printable version is available by clicking HERE or at the bottom of the post.

Several years ago I would have said that healing our marriage was absolutely impossible.

Thankfully, our God is so good at doing the impossible.

PRAYER FOR A BROKEN MARRIAGE

Lord,

There is so much wrong with our marriage, I don’t know where to start.  I’m sorry we haven’t made You the center of our marriage like we meant to.  I’m sorry I haven’t been the wife, his helper, that I should have been. Please forgive me, Father.

It seems impossible to fix this marriage, Jesus.  We’ve been going the wrong way for far too long. But I know You are the God who does impossible things.  We need You to do the impossible for us, Lord. Our marriage feels so dead, so lifeless. But You breathed life into dry bones in Ezekiel 37.  You created us from dust. Please, Lord, breathe life into our marriage.

I don’t want to give up, but it’s so hard, Lord.  I’m tired of being angry, hurt, and frustrated all the time.  Heal us. Soften my heart toward him. Help me to see him the way You see him, Lord.  Bring to my mind the plans You have for him, the gifts You have given him, and all the wonderful ways You created him to be.

Keep Satan far away from us, Lord.  Help us to recognize he is the true enemy here, not each other.  We know he would like our marriage destroyed and our family broken.  He has already had too many victories in our marriage, but not anymore.  Protect us from every strategy formed against us, every lie he would like to whisper, every doubt or any fear he would like to plant in our minds.

Create something new for us, Jesus.  Fill us with a new love for each other and a renewed hope for the future.  Ignite in us a passion for You above all else, and then for each other as well.  Mark out a straight path for us, so we know which direction to go when we get off this toxic merry-go-round.  Guide each step, Lord, I’m not sure we have the energy to take much more than a step at a time.

We know You are for us and that You want a marriage for us that will bring joy and glorify You.  We have tried to do this on our own, Lord, and it hasn’t worked out well. So I place our marriage in Your hands and give up control to You.  I am Yours, and our marriage is Yours. Thank you for Your promises to restore and love us in ways we can’t even begin to fully understand!

In Your Precious Name,

Amen

Thank you for this prayer. God always gives us what we need at the right time. It doesn’t matter how long you struggle once you’re ready to let go and let God he is always there. God bless you and your marriage.

Thanks, Tonya! I learned the hard way that it is exhausting and futile to try to do the work only God can do! We are so grateful to have stepped aside and let Him have HIS way. Praying for blessings for you!

Pray is the best thing you can do now. God is bigger than our sin. God can work a miracle in your marriage. Praying for you and your husband.

Thanks for allowing me the blessing of praying for you. Praying IS the very best place to start. God’s perspective is much, much better than our perspective. God knows you made mistakes and so desperately loves you.

I was just reading Philippians 4:6-9, and I am praying you wrap those Words around you and let Him blanket you in peace. You can’t change what was done, but you can ask for forgiveness from God and your husband and then decide to let God use all of these things change you into a person that is far better than you’ve ever been.

I’ll be praying for you and your husband, and for healing in your marriage, as well as that you both are able to draw close to God during this time, no matter what happens.

Please know that you may have remorse, but you don’t have to live in shame. “He personally carried away our sins in His own body on the cross sow we can be dead to sin and live for what is right. You have been healed by His wounds!” (I Peter 2:24)

May you be filled with hope and love and peace!

Please pray for my marriage. I am trying to let God take control but I struggle in keeping faith that my husband is possible of change and miracles as he has never been a strong believer. We have been separated for almost 3 months now and it pains me to see him so distant from me and our 3yr old child. Time is what he asks but I only see it furthering us apart more and more. He shows no emotion towards me, please help.

I’m impressed, I must say. Really rarely must i encounter a blog that’s both educative and entertaining, and let me tell you, you have hit the nail around the head. Your thought is outstanding; the issue is an element that too few persons are speaking intelligently about. I will be very happy that I came across this during my search for some thing regarding this.

Praying for you Jamie, your marriage and your husband. Hold on and keep praying. I pray for peace in your marriage and I pray that the enemy’s strategies be broken. What he came to kill and destroy our LORD came to restore.

We will continue to keep you in our prayers, Jaime, thank you for reaching out.

Dear Lord,
Thank you that you are a God that is “near the broken-hearted.” Lord, I ask right now this moment that Jaime feels that You are near….feels that You are working in their lives and marriage.

Lord, please intervene in this marriage – bring healing into their deepest places, even those things unknown or unrecognized by them. You are powerful and “mighty to save” (Zephaniah 3:17). We ask for that power, that same power that resurrected Jesus, to be present and working to renew and resurrect Jaime, her husband, and their marriage. Give them strength and wisdom not to look behind them, Lord, but to place their hope in a future with You leading the way, guiding them, and beginning something NEW in them and with them and their marriage.
Fill Jaime, Holy Spirit, I can only guess at how empty she feels. Fill her with fullness and peace only You can give. Let it be fuel that allows her to persevere. Use this time to bring her closer to You than she’s ever been. Let her know Your warm embrace.
Thank You in advance, Lord, for all the ways You are working in them. Protect them in every way and on every side as they walk a new path and learn to sing a new song.
We love You and praise Your Name. In Jesus Name,
Amen

Please pray for our marriage. It has gotten so toxic, communication is toxic, all we do is fight and our marriage seems beyond repair, so far gone. My husband thinks divorce is the only solution and I need a miracle in us and our marriage. Please pray for his salvation.

Praying over your marriage this morning, friend. I can only say that God is a God of the impossible. Praying for both of you to have surrendered hearts to “Him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us…” (Ephesians 3:20). Sending love and hugs and ongoing prayers.
