DAY TWO: THE GOOD PORTION
There’s a piece of cheesecake in our fridge I’ve been waiting to eat until just the right moment – a time when I NEED it – a time when the overwhelm gauge is dipping more toward “possible insanity” than “cool, calm, and collected.”
I’ll wait until a time when I’m alone, and I don’t have to feel guilty or share or be interrupted…umm…I can just about taste the white chocolate and raspberries now. And you better believe I’m going to lick that plate clean (If you’ve ever had my husband’s cheesecake, you would, too).
This Christmas season, there will be plenty of opportunities to indulge. I’m certainly not opposed to treats, but I try to make it worth it. The White Chocolate Raspberry Cheesecake is sooooo worth it.
But sometimes I’ve found myself mindlessly snacking on whatever is in front of me until I feel sick and remorseful. Getting filled up that way is just not satisfying.
It is the same with our relationship with Jesus, especially during busy times and holidays. Our days get swallowed up so quickly, and when we finally have a moment, we snack on social media or Netflix or whatever mindlessly fills the rest of the space.
But Luke 10:42 tells us that Jesus is the GOOD PORTION ; the portion that makes you FULL.
He says to us,
“Come to me, Parent/Nurse/Teacher/Student, who has been getting up even earlier this Christmas season to get it all done.
Come to me and stay with me until you are satisfied and full and you can sit back in your chair with your eyes closed, soaking in the richness you receive from me.
I will show you more than you can ask or imagine.”
Jesus says it ours for the taking, but He also indicates in this verse it is up to us to choose the good portion.
Today in our study guide, we are going to look at the story of Mary and Martha in relation to our theme for Week One, “Oh Come Let Us Adore HIm.”
These two women are both so very precious to Jesus.
But the way they experience Him in Luke 10 is very different. As we wrestle through the verses, let us consider what portion we choose, the mindless snacking or the decadent cheesecake.
The good portion is yours for the taking...If you choose Him.

Although the song below isn’t a Christmas song, it is a song that brings me to the feet of my Savior. I pray it will bring you close to Him as well.
